The Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition is one of 26 Provincial Coalitions to receive funding from Healthy Child Manitoba. The members of our Coalition are people from the community who are interested in the welfare of our children.
Every program funded by the Coalition supports parents in one or more of the following areas: parenting, nutrition and physical health, literacy, and capacity building. These programs are geared towards families with children birth to 6 years of age and are free to attend. All of the Family Centres are free drop in programs for parents and children to attend together.
Theme programs and programs offered at South Winnipeg Family Information Centre (SWFIC) may require preregistration and have limited enrolment. For more information about a specific program, please call the coordinator: 204-415-1826, 204-299-1600.
Talk to other parents about the joys and challenges of parenting. Ask the Program Leaders for ideas about services and resources in your community to support you in being the best parent possible.
Nutrition and Physical Health
Enjoy a healthy snack, exchange recipes and ideas for feeding your family, and learn through discussions about ways to save time and money in the kitchen. (What's for supper, anyways?)
Take part in the rhyme circle, share a book with your child, participate in craft time, or simply spend some quiet time with your little one. These are all activities you can enjoy at one of the funded programs. Find out how these activities help prepare your child for school.
Find out about training opportunities and programs you can take part in, learn about ways you can become involved in your community, share your knowledge and experiences with others.
Purpose of Coalition funded programming:
• Meet other parents
• Share ideas, joys, and frustrations
• Give your child a chance to play with other children
